 Title: Over 44,000 rural women made literate in 18 months
 Summary: TARA Akshar, India’s fastest literacy programme, has made over 44,000 rural women literate till date. Out of the 45,112 women who have enrolled in the course till 26 May, 2008, 44,201 have passed the examination at a success rate of 98%. TARA Akshar is a computer-based functional literacy programme that teaches completely illiterate people to read and write Hindi (Devanagri) in 30 days. It was Invented and developed by Development Alternatives at TARAhaat – DA’s ICT affiliate in Delhi, and rolled out under the Poorest Areas Civil Society Programme in 2007.
